As you know, Rezang La is famous for the 1962 India - China war. Situated at an elevation of  5199 meters was a fierce battleground. 

A Brief History - WHY A Memorial was Made??

On 18 November 1962, 114 Indian soldiers out of a total of 120 were killed. Whereas 1,300 Chinese soldiers were killed in the battle. The Indian side was led by Major Shaitan Singh. Major Shaitan Singh was later awarded Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest gallantry award.


The inscription on the War Memorial at for those who died in the Battle of Rezang La reads:

How can a man die better,
Than facing fearful odds,
For the ashes of his fathers,
And temples of his gods.
 
Where is Rezang La located ?

The union territory of Ladakh has a village named Chushul. At Elevation of 5,199 m (17,057 ft) lies Rezang La which is in close vicinity of this Chushul village. 

How to reach Rezang La ?


Rezang La is 12 Km from Chushul and 38 KM from Pangong lake. You need to hire a taxi or rent a bike to reach here. Adjacent to Rezang La war memorial is Airstrip which was used during war but is no more functional.

Best Places to visit near  Rezang La are Pangong TSO lake and Hanle. Everyone knows about Pangong, but for those who don't know much about Hanle, Let me tell you That Hanle Has an astronomical observatory, and there are only 3 such observatories and Hanle observatory is unique because of its location.
